Lorem ipsum : What’s It?!?

Hey… you must have come across a desktop-publishing software theme or even themes in many other softwares like frontpage, powerpoint, etc. where the text written in the preview is “LOREM IPSUM”, which seems distantly Latin, but you may not have even thought what is it… Right? Well even I hadn’t given a damn to this triviality. that is until I was editing my blogger layout…

When I came across this :

Lorem ipsum vim ut utroque mandamus intellegebat, ut eam omittam ancillae sadipscing, per et eius soluta veritus

I couldn’t hold myself back to uncover the mystery behind the sentence, particularly the first 2 words (the reason for the research was cuz I was already connected to the Web).

Now, after I wiki-ed it, I came across the following article : Wikipedia search for : Lorem ipsum

“In publishing and graphic design, lorem ipsum is common placeholder text used to demonstrate the graphic elements of a document or visual presentation, such as font, typography, and layout. It is a form of “greeking”.

Even though using “lorem ipsum” often arouses curiosity due to its resemblance to classical Latin, it is not intended to have meaning….

…The most common lorem ipsum text reads as follows:

The text is actually derived from Cicero‘s De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum. A Latin scholar, Richard McClintock (Publications director at Hampden-Sydney College, Virginia), who was searching citings of the rarely used word’consectetur in classical literature, during which he came across this text :

And this led to the full version of the lorem ipsum thing which is :

And if you tried to translate it from Latin to English, the text returned is something hilarious/weird like this:

Input :

Lorem ipsum vim ut utroque mandamus intellegebat, ut eam omittam ancillae sadipscing, per et eius soluta veritus.

Output :

Lorem itself vim when to both sides order intellegebat , when she to omit maidservant sadipscing , very and her loosening truthfulness.

AH HA mate thanks for solving my puzzle, that thing was eating me up (why didnt i think of Wiki!)
    Cheers to your research :-bd

Thanks. I ran into the same thing and when I googled the translation from latin, it seemed pretty nefarious considering the subject of the blog LOL.

  3. I also found this in the preview box of my blog and researched the phrase (and came across your apparently dead blog haha).
I plugged this phrase into Google translate (Latin to English) and got a more comprehensible translation:

“This force, that we command both observing that, in order that she say nothing of sadipscing handmaid, and then give us his loosed the truth.”

I lied, this doesn’t seem to make much sense either.

      well…
as the post explains… the Lorem Ipsum text is actually some gibberish semi-Latin text, used to fill up the content in modern designs…

so translating that wont make TOO much of a sense…
      though… it was worth a shot !!! 😛

Ah man, thanks. I thought someone was trying to put on curse on us! Yikes. Thanks for setting my mind at ease mate.
